MediaVerse
Description
A collaborative photoshoot between all participating teams, freedom of direction, and your trusty camera – sounds simple enough, right? Well, think twice, for our compulsory Media category is going to put all that you know and love about the discipline to the test. You’ll be pushed to limits you were unaware you could reach, be it socially or technically speaking. Walking out the category room, you’ll have your composure rattled, perhaps a new ally at your side, but almost certainly a longer list of enemies than when you walked in.
The Theory of Everything
Description
What does it take to think like a technologist? Let's find out. In the Theory of Everything delegates are put through increasingly demanding tests of knowledge and problem-solving. From racing against time itself in a battle of IT centered knowledge to dissecting real-world problems and proposing solutions, the challenge culminates in a life-sized test of logic, precision, and technical skill. We must adhere to the changing times and embrace technological advancement; this category allows you to do exactly that. Across three elimination rounds, delegates must prove that knowing the answer is only the beginning.
Frame of Mind
Description
If the idiom “give an inch, take a mile” came to life, it would undeniably take the shape of our photography category heavily infused with literature. Here, you are free to let your thoughts run wild; in fact, you might just be rewarded for it. Those hours upon hours you spent curating Pinterest boards will certainly come in handy for this category, where you will be at liberty to make the mood board of your dreams – only this time, you’ll have to start from scratch. Don’t forget, the proverb our friendly neighbourhood superhero’s uncle declared still rings true: “With great power (or interpretive freedom) comes great responsibility.”
Ada’s Algorithm
Description
What begins as an idea must eventually become a utility for the masses. In Ada’s Algorithm delegates must bridge the gap between design and development, transforming a visual concept into a fully functional digital platform. Whether through HTML, CSS, or JavaScript, the final challenge is not simply to make a website work, but to make the original vision survive the tiresome journey ahead. Every idea begins as a blueprint waiting to take the shape of something new. An idea is only the beginning.
Pachpan Premiere
Description
In a year where box office numbers have reached newfound heights, we at Pachpan offer you the opportunity to concoct your very own short film. Of course, being a director isn’t nearly a walk in the park, especially when you’re the screen writer, producer, editor, cinematographer… the list goes on and on. You certainly won’t have a dearth of tasks on your plate, but you must rise to the challenge; after all, every magnum opus has to start somewhere.
Brignall’s Brush
Description
Brignall’s Brush puts delegates to a perilous test, entailing the personal narration of various stories across three distinct visual worlds.Whether it be the nostalgia of retro album art or the possibilities of tomorrow’s cities, something new should be born. Subsequently, teams are challenged to experiment with technology and symbolism, transforming ideas into images. From a single album cover to an animated narrative, every frame must have something to say.
Tape No. 55
Description
What happens when a song is not just heard, but seen and acutely felt? Tape No. 55 challenges delegates to turn sound into performance, transforming an assigned song into an original audio-visual experience. Across rounds, teams will record their own rendition and bring it to life through a visual demonstration of their choice. Cinematography and editing will be put to the test; however, the gravest challenge lies in making every frame move with the music. Sometimes, sound, story, and image culminate into one.
Banzi’s Trials
Description
45 years ago, Massimo Banzi sat in his living room, playing with a tiny magnetic toy he had received as a present; more than 4 decades later, you will be wielding his platform in order to raise yourself up. Inspiration arises from the strangest of places, much like brilliance is rooted in the most unsuspecting of minds. Don’t rule yourself out just yet; with our robotics category, you’ll race further and further, miles beyond the barricade your mind has constricted itself to.
Flashback Files
Description
When a moment fades, we find refuge in the vestige. Flashback Files asks delegates to become the eyes of the event, capturing its underlying chaos, energy, and emotion as it unfolds. Working with moments they cannot script or recreate, teams must find a story within the unscripted and transform raw, real-time footage into a cohesive visual narrative. The final film should not simply document the event, but offer a new, radiant perspective on it. In the words of Robert Doisneau, “the marvels of daily life are exciting; no movie director can arrange the unexpected that you find in the street.”
EchoTech
Description
When the sheen of sweat on your neck meets the hiss of the AC, you shiver in response, but it incites a wider response in your mind, stimulating thoughts traversing far beyond the confines of the four walls you’re in. With EchoTech, those notions aren’t mere passing thoughts; they’re something substantial, something that can step on the gas of the change you so covet to introduce into the world. Every minute decision determines the outcome of our swiftly depleting planet; will you dare to be the one to put an end to it all?
Brandstorm
Description
Brandstorm challenges delegates to turn a commodity into a story, something that makes one stop and turn. Meticulous photography can be employed to capture attention while communicating a distinct brand identity. Teams will not only brainstorm but also conceptualise, before refining their vision in post-production. Let appeal meet honesty and allow the message to go beyond word, beyond action.
Tech Trials
Description
If your notion of an ideal hangout with your friends involves solving a crime case, our Law category is the place for you; only this time, it’ll just be your clattering keyboard and your half-formed theories on your side. As you stand in a room full of suspects wearing ostensibly indestructible facades of innocence, you might just be forced to look inward and ask yourself: do you have what it takes to draw the truth out, however ugly it may be?
